SRINAGAR: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Monday opposed the proposed Western Foreshore Road from Hotel Mamta to Habbak via Cherry Park, alleging that the project was driven by political considerations rather than public interest.
The proposed Western Foreshore Road from Hotel Mamta to Habbak via Cherry Park is a deliberate attempt to mislead and push a vote-bank agenda. Developed by the Tourism Department Cherry Park should be preserved as an eco park, not sacrificed for political appeasement. Why destroy Nigeen Lake’s tranquility, Kashmir needs ecological protection, not divisive politics.

The former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister called for Cherry Park, developed by the Tourism Department, to be preserved as an eco park instead of being used for the proposed road project.
In a post on social media, Mehbooba questioned the need for the road and expressed concern over its potential impact on the tranquillity of Nigeen Lake.
She alleged that the proposal was an attempt to mislead people and pursue a vote-bank agenda, arguing that Kashmir needed ecological protection rather than divisive politics.
Her remarks come amid concerns over the proposed road alignment and the need to protect the environment surrounding Nigeen Lake.
