SRINAGAR: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti was unanimously re-elected to the post on Thursday after no other candidate was proposed during the party’s Electoral College meeting.
The election process began with senior party leader Abdul Rehman Veeri proposing Mufti’s name for the presidency. The proposal was seconded by senior leader Khursheed Alam, who called upon Electoral College members to extend their support.
The presiding officer subsequently asked whether any other member wished to contest the election. With no alternative nomination forthcoming, the members approved Mufti’s candidature unanimously through a show of hands.
The formal process was completed after Electoral College members signed the proposal papers individually.
A large number of PDP leaders, party workers and Electoral College members attended the meeting.
