SRINAGAR: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti on Monday called on legislators from all parties to address the hardships faced by nearly one lakh daily wagers as the Jammu Kashmir Assembly reconvenes. She urged both the ruling and opposition members to unite in securing the regularisation of these workers, who have for years formed the backbone of the government’s routine functioning.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the former chief minister said these workers, drawn largely from marginalised sections of society, have long served as the backbone of government functioning. She urged all Members of the Legislative Assembly, including those from the ruling party, to come together to ensure their regularisation.

“It is crucial that all MLAs, along with the ruling party, unite to address this issue and ensure the regularisation of these workers, so they can receive the dignity and job security they rightfully deserve,” Mufti wrote.
The issue of daily wagers has remained a long-standing concern in Jammu Kashmir, with repeated demands for regularisation and better service conditions.
Mehbooba’s remarks come at a time when public pressure on the government has been mounting over delays in implementing a clear policy to regularize these employees.
