National Conference Wedesnday ridiculed Mehbooba Mufti’s statement ascribing a number to PDP’s prospects in the Assembly elections even before the elections have started. NC Spokesman Junaid Mattu said that Mehbooba Mufti should focus on retaining even 12 of the present 21 legislators from PDP which would be an uphill task given the abysmal track-record of the party’s MLAs who made a mockery of the faith that the voters of their areas had reposed in them.

“We were all aware that Mehbooba Mufti is not a very sharp student of politics but now it is safe to say that she is not very good at arithmetic too. Out of the present tally of 21 MLAs that PDP has, most incumbent legislators are facing charges of gross nepotism and corruption. Besides, these PDP MLAs never allowed the Assembly to function and made the people of their areas suffer for want of representation and a voice in the Assembly. So, Mehbooba Mufti should be worried about the rout of most of her incumbent MLAs before she starts building castles in the air”, the NC Spokesman said.

The NC Spokesman said that PDP was facing an enormous, unprecedented and severe backlash from the public for cozying up to counter-insurgents, SOG stalwarts and some of the most corrupt faces in the State – most of whom have been given mandates by the party. “PDP’s General Secretary has been convicted of graft by a Special CBI Court and sentenced to three years in prison. The party leaders are trying their best to do damage control after there was an outrage over Ex-SOG stalwart Ashiq Bukhari being made the face of the party. Besides, many PDP candidates have been convicted by courts of corruption, impropriety and embezzlement including former bureaucrats who found a safe-haven in PDP to save their skin”, the NC Spokesman added.

The NC Spokesman said that National Conference was a clean party in the eyes of the public as there had been no scams or scandals of the nature in NC that PDP candidates and leaders have been found involved in. “Omar Abdullah has succeeded in bringing the State out of the rot of corruption by waging a historic war against the menace in the last six years despite the constraints of coalition politics. There hasn’t been a single accusation of corruption in the process through which the Omar Abdullah Government added hydroelectric projects worth 1300 Megawatts to the State while laying an edifice for another 9000 Megawatts in the years to come. On the other hand, PDP’s sole contribution in the power sector was the installation of meters and the power theft worth lakhs by one of their party faces and candidate from Srinagar who was fined 30 lakhs for power theft just a few months ago. So the people have taken note of these things and PDP has no answers to offer”, the NC Spokesman further added.
