SRINAGAR: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday said it would be “fatal and deeply unfortunate” for the people of Kashmir if reports of Kashmiri doctors’ involvement in the Red Fort blast prove true, urging authorities to ensure a fair and transparent probe.
Addressing a gathering of party workers at the PDP headquarters in Srinagar, Mehbooba said the Red Fort blast was condemnable but warned that its alleged links to Kashmiri professionals could have grave social and political consequences. “If the reports about the involvement of Kashmiri doctors turn out to be true, it will be stunning and devastating for our people. Doctors are the cream of our society, and such incidents will only damage the collective image of Kashmiris,” she said.
The PDP chief stressed that investigations must be impartial and not lead to harassment of innocent families. “Crime has not yet been proven, yet families of the accused are being harassed. This is unacceptable,” Mehbooba said.
She questioned the raids being conducted in Kashmir following the explosion in Delhi. “The blast occurred in Delhi, but raids are being conducted in Kashmir,” she remarked, appealing to the Delhi government to expedite the investigation without turning it into a campaign of persecution.
Reiterating her party’s long-standing position, Mehbooba said the PDP continued to support peaceful dialogue and resolution of the Kashmir issue. “This demand was there when we formed governments with Congress and the BJP, and it continues to guide our politics today,” she added.
