Mercy Petition Of Guru Was Rejected On Feb.3

Home minister, Sushil Kumar Shinde while giving details of the Afzal Guru’s hanging said that president Pranab Mukharji had rejected his mercy petition on February 3.

“Merci petition of Guru was rejected on February 3, and today at 8 AM, the law took its course,” Shinde said.

Afzal Guru of Sopore town was hanged a day before the 29th death anniversary of Mohammad Maqbool Bhat. Bhat was also hanged in the same Tihar jail on February 11, 1984.

Meanwhile, a strict curfew has been clamped in Srinagar and almost all the parts of Kashmir valley.  Police arrested many separatist leaders and activists during nocturnal raids including Shabir Shah, Ayaz Akbar and others. Police also put Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai under house arrest.

“Jammu and Kashmir police have taken some security measures to avoid any law and order problem,” said Shinde.
