SRINAGAR: A local Meteorological Department of Kashmir on Saturday predicted moderate snowfall in the valley from Sunday.

The Director of Meteorological department Kashmir Sonam Lotus said that weather will remain mainly dry till tomorrow evening after which there are 90 per cent chances of moderate snowfall with isolated heavy snowfall during December 7 and 8.

“The system is likely to give more snowfall in northern parts of Kashmir,” he said.

“Thereafter as of now, another snow spell is likely during December 12 and December 13 (may change slightly in coming days, predictability upto 60%,” he added.

Gulmarg famous ski-resort in north Kashmir was the coldest place in the region where minimum temperature was minus 3.8 degrees Celsius.

Srinagar, the summer capital of the state recorded a low of 1.7 while the mercury in Qazigund in south Kashmir settled at a low of 1 degrees Celsius.

The night temperature in Pahalgam – the famous health resort which also serves as one of the base camps for the annual Amarnath Yatra – settled at a low of 0.7 degrees.

Kokernag town recorded a low of minus 0.3 degrees Celsius while Kupwara town in north Kashmir registered a low of 3 degrees Celsius last night.

Jammu city recorded 12.3 degrees Celsius, Katra town 11.0, Batote 7.0, Banihal 4.0 and Bhaderwah 4.0 as the minimum temperatures.
