SRINAGAR: The Meteorological department (MeT) here has predicted light snow on higher reaches in the Kashmir Valley over two days from Saturday.

Director MeT Sonam Lotus said that as per the forecast, light snow is expected at higher reaches of Kashmir during December  26 and December 27.

The 40-day long ‘Chillai Kalan’ that started on December 21 will continue till January 31.

Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded minus 3.8 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature.

The famous ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir, which experienced several feet of snowfall on various occasions last month recorded a low of minus 5.6 degrees Celsius.

The famous hill resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir was the coldest place in Kashmir recorded a low of minus 5.2 degrees Celsius.

Kupwara township of north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 3.8 degrees Celsius. Kokernag, in south Kashmir, recorded minus 3.0 degrees Celsius while Qazigund registered minus 3.4, he said.

Jammu city recorded 6.6, Katra recorded 6.7, Batote 2.7, Bannihal minus 0.2 and Bhaderwah 0.1 as the night’s lowest temperatures.
