MeT Predicts Moderate To Heavy Snowfall In Kashmir

   

SRINAGAR: The metrological department on Thursday forecast widespread moderate to heavy snowfall likely from December 23 to December 25.

Director, meteorological department of J&K and Ladakh, Sonam Lotus said that currently, weather is generally cloudy at most places of Kashmir with reports of light snow at places like Gurez, Sonmarg, Zojila-Drass axis.

“Same weather most likely to continue till later tonight and improve thereafter,” he said.

“As of date, widespread Moderate to Heavy Snowfall ( at some places) is most likely during (23-25th Dec.). We’re in for a White X-Mas in both J&K and Ladakh,” said Director, meteorological department of J&K and Ladakh, Sonam Lotus.

The minimum temperature recorded in the Srinagar city was minus 2.1 degrees Celsius, making it the coldest night so far, an official of the Meteorological Department said.

The famous ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir, which experienced several feet of snowfall on various occasions, was the coldest place in Kashmir with a low of minus 10.0 degrees Celsius.

The famous hill resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded a minimum of minus 6.9 degrees Celsius.

Kupwara township of north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 4.5 degrees Celsius. Kokernag, in south Kashmir, recorded minus 3.0 degrees Celsius while Qazigund registered minus 3.0, he said.

In the Jammu region, Jammu city recorded 5.9 degrees Celsius, Katra recorded 4.6, Banihal minus 1.2, Batote recorded 0.5 and Bhaderwah minus 0.4 as the night’s lowest temperatures.
