SRINAGAR: The Meteorological department (MeT) on Sunday has predicted moderate rains and snow in Kashmir and upper reaches of Jammu from November 13.

Director MeT Sonam Lotus said a western disturbance is most likely to affect J&K and Ladakh from November 13 to November 15, with main activity on November 14.

He said that as a result of this, moderate rain /snow (1-2inches snow) is likely in plains of Kashmir and hilly areas of Jammu and Ladakh, especially Drass, Zanskar and some area of Leh District, whereas good snowfall is expected at places like Gulmarg, Gurez etc.

He said the day temperature will drop by 5-6 degrees Celsius and advised the farmers to take appropriate actions.

Leh town of Ladakh region recorded the lowest minimum temperature at minus 10.7 degrees Celsius while Pahalgam at minus 2.8 was the coldest in the valley followed by Kokernag at minus 2.4.

The famous ski-resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded a minimum temperature of minus 1.8 degree Celsius.

Srinagar recorded the lowest night temperature of the season so far as the minimum temperature recorded in the city was minus 1.4 degrees Celsius, an official of the Meteorological Department said.

Kupwara township of north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 2.2  degrees Celsius while Qazugund in south Kashmir recorded minus 0.8 degrees Celsius.

In the Jammu region, Jammu city recorded 12.2 degrees Celsius, Katra recorded 12.0, Banihal 3.4, Batote recorded 6.8 and Bhaderwah 3.4  as the night’s lowest temperatures.
