SRINAGAR: The Meteorological department (MeT) here has predicted light snow at isolated places in the Kashmir Valley and the Zojila Pass area on Friday evening.

Director MeT Sonam Lotus said that as per the forecast, light snow is expected at isolated to scattered places of Kashmir and Zojila area of Ladakh during December 4 evening and December 5.

He said that there’s more than 70% chances of a spell of light to moderate snow at many places of Kashmir, Drass Zojila area and at the hilly area of Jammu is expected during December 7 and December 8.

The MET office also said they expected snowfall at the Zojila Pass to block the Srinagar-Leh highway during this period.

Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, recorded minus 1.4 degrees Celsius as the minimum temperature.

The famous ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir, which experienced several feet of snowfall on various occasions last month recorded a low of minus 2.5 degrees Celsius.

The famous hill resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir was the coldest place in Kashmir recorded a low of minus 3.8 degrees Celsius.

Kupwara township of north Kashmir recorded a low of minus 1.8  degrees Celsius. Kokernag, in south Kashmir, recorded 0.4 degrees Celsius while Qazigund registered minus 0.8, he said.

In the Jammu region, Jammu city recorded 10.8 degrees Celsius, Katra recorded 10.5, Banihal 6.2, Batote recorded 8.0 and Bhaderwah 2.9 as the night’s lowest temperatures.
