SRINAGAR: The meteorological department (MeT) on Wednesday predicted light rain, snowfall in Kashmir from February 2.

Sonam Lotus, Director of Meteorological Department, said currently, weather is partly to generally cloudy at most places of Jammu and Kashmir.

“Fairly widespread to widespread light to moderate rain/snow during February 2 and February 4 with main activity on 3rd with the possibility of isolated heavy rain/snow mainly in south Kashmir and Jammu region,” he said.

“Light Rain/Snow is also most likely at scattered places during February 6-7th. Some places in the Jammu region may receive thunderstorm/hailstorm on February 3,” he added.

“Overall, weather likely to remain( erratic) partly to generally cloudy with occasional light snowfall at scattered places till February 8,” said the spokesman.

Gulmarg in north Kashmir the famous tourist place was the coldest place in the Valley where the minimum temperature was minus 8.0 degrees.

Srinagar, the summer capital of the state recorded a low of minus 1.9 while the mercury in Qazigund in south Kashmir settled at a low of minus 2.8 degrees Celsius.

The night temperature in Pahalgam a famous tourist resort–settled at a low of minus 6.1 degrees.

Kokernag town recorded a low of minus 2.6 degrees Celsius while Kupwara town in north Kashmir registered a low of minus 2.2 degrees Celsius last night.

Jammu city recorded 7.1 degrees Celsius, Katra 6.0, Batote 2.1, Banihal recorded 2.2 and Bhaderwah recorded minus 1.0 degrees Celsius as the night’s lowest temperatures.
