SRINAGAR: Weather is expected to take a turn from Saturday afternoon, with the activity likely to intensify from February 18 until February 20 evening.

Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, Director of MeT,  said that the middle and upper reaches across different parts of Kashmir are likely to witness heavy to very heavy snowfall until February 20 evening.

“Weather will largely remain dry until February 17 afternoon, after which the weather activity is expected to set in, bringing light snowfall in upper areas”, Dr Mukhtar said, adding that the activity will intensify from February 18 morning, causing snowfall in higher reaches as well as plain areas.

“While the plains will receive snowfall between 6 inches to 1 foot, the middle and upper reaches will receive heavy to very heavy snowfall”, he said.

Regarding Jammu, Dr Mukhtar said that the region will see rains and thunderstorms, with chances of hailstorms at some isolated places.

“The mountainous reaches in districts including Doda, Kishtwar, Ramban, and Poonch are also expected to see moderate to heavy snowfall during the period”, he said.

“The intensity will lessen from February 21 afternoon, and weather will start to see improvement accordingly”, he said. (KS)
