Mian Altaf to Miss All-Party Visit Abroad Due to Baba Nagri Urs

SRINAGAR: National Conference (NC) Member of Parliament Mian Altaf Ahmad Larvi will not participate in an upcoming all-party delegation’s international visit as he attends to his responsibilities as the spiritual head of the Ziyarat Baba Ji Sahib Larvi Wangath shrine at Wangat, Ganderbal.

The decision reflects his focus on the annual Urs of Hazrat Mian Nizam-ud-Din Kiyani (RA),  also known as the Baba Nagri Urs, an important religious event observed by followers across Jammu and Kashmir and beyond.

Mian Altaf, who serves as the Sajjadah Nasheen (custodian) of the shrine, said his presence during the two-day Urs, beginning in early June, is essential.

“The Urs is a time of reflection, devotion, and community gathering. My responsibilities here are critical, considering the large number of devotees and the event’s religious nature,” the MP said.

The NC leadership has supported Mian Altaf’s decision, recognising the religious and cultural relevance of the Urs.

Party sources said the delegation’s schedule would continue as planned, with other members representing the NC abroad.

Mian Altaf is currently focused on religious preparations at home, overseeing arrangements for the Urs, which draws tens of thousands of devotees from various parts of Jammu and Kashmir.

The Urs at Baba Nagri remains a central religious event, drawing people seeking spiritual connection in the Himalayan region.

Mian Mehar Ali, MLA from Kangan and son of NC MP Mian Altaf, confirmed to KNO that his father will not join the All-Party Delegation abroad due to the Baba Nagri Urs.
