Militant, aide arrested in north Kashmir

Police on Monday claimed to have arrested an active militant of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) outfit and his associate in Uri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

“Today Police Baramulla received input from reliable sources about the movement of some (militants) in the General area Uri,” a police spokesman in a statement said.

Consequently, various naka’s on multiple points and stops were established by the joint forces of Police Baramulla 18 Maratha and 53 Battalion CRPF, the spokesman said.

“One such NAKA was established at NS Bridge Uri towards Hathlanga side. At around 15:30 hrs, two suspected persons were coming from Saida Pora towards Uri,” the spokesman said, adding “On seeing the naka checking party, they tried to flee away from the spot in a suspicious manner”.

The naka party tactfully and bravely without caring for their lives caught both of them. On preliminary enquiry they disclosed their names as, Zubair Ahmad Tantry alias Abu Bakar son of Ghulam Mohammad Tantray of Baharampora Sopore, who is an active militant of LeT outfit and his associate namely Bilal Ahmad Rather son of Ghulam Mohammad Rather of Sahoora Uri, the spokesman said.

On their personal search, a huge catch of arms and ammunitions and other incriminating material was recovered.

“In this connection, a case under FIR No 49/2020, under various provisions of the Indian Arms Act, Indian Explosives Act and Unlawful Activity (Prevention) Act stands registered in Police Station Uri and investigation has been started,” the spokesman said.
