Militant Associate Arrested, Grenade Recovered: Police

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Friday claimed to have arrested a militant associate and recovered a grenade from his possession in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.

A police spokesman said that a joint checkpoint was established by Ganderbal Police and 5RR near Baderkund Nursery area of Ganderbal.

“A suspected person tried to flee and evade from the checkpoint, but the vigilant party managed to apprehend the said suspect,” he said.

“He has been identified as Showkat Ahmad Bhat son of Abdul Ahad Bhat resident of Urpash Ganderbal. During search, officers at the checkpoint have recovered one grenade from his possession,” he added.

“Accordingly, a case FIR No.174/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Ganderabal and further investigation has been initiated,” said the spokesman.
