SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir police on Saturday claimed to have arrested a militant associate of proscribed outfit JeM and recovered incriminating materials from his possession.

A police spokesman in a statement said that Awantipora Police along with 55RR and 185Bn CRPF arrested a militant associate linked with proscribed outfit JeM in Awantipora.

“He has been identified as Umer Farooq Bhat son of Farooq Ahmad Bhat resident of Renzipora Awantipora. Incriminating materials including a Hand Grenade has been recovered from his possession,” said the spokesman.

The spokesman in a statement said that preliminary investigation revealed that the arrested associate was involved in providing shelter, logistic support, transportation of arms/ammunition and assisting the terrorists to shift their locations.

“Besides, he was also passing sensitive information regarding movement of Police/Security forces to the militants of proscribed outfit JeM,” he said.

“A case under relevant sections of law has been registered in Police Station Awantipora and investigation has been initiated,” said the spokesman.
