SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday claimed to have arrested an active militant along with four associates in Lolab area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

A police spokesman in a statement said, “Acting on credible information regarding Cross-LOC smuggling of weapons and warlike stores by militant associates and their further  delivery to active militants, a joint operation was carried out during late hours last night by Kupwara Police, 28 RR and 162 BN  CRPF.”

“During the search operation, one active militant identified as Parvaiz Ahmad Bhat son of Abdullah Bhat resident of Lalpora Lolab of proscribed outfit HM was apprehended. Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including one AK-47 Rifle and a Chinese Pistol with Magazines were recovered from his possession,” said the spokesman.

“Moreover, the joint team also apprehended 04 militant associates of proscribed outfit HM. They have been identified as Altaf Ahmad Mir son of Abdullah Mir resident of  Hajibal Narizeb Kalarooch, Gh Mohammad Kohli son of Gh Hassan Kohli resident of Warnow Lolab,  Nizam Din Gujjar son of Mohammad Yaqoob resident of Gujjarpati Bandipora and Ab Qayoom Gujjar son of Mirza Gujjar resident of Khenura Bandipora,” he said.

“Incriminating materials, arms and ammunition including 01 Pistol, 60 AK rounds, 02 Pistol magazines, 12 Pistol rounds and 01 Pouch were recovered from their possession,” he added.

The spokesman said that as per the police records, they were involved in providing logistic support and transporting of arms/ammunition to the active militants of proscribed outfit HM operating in the valley.

“They were also involved in establishing contacts with active militant commanders’ alias Riyaz and Amjad of Bandipora currently operating at Sonar launch pad as Dett Commanders for smuggling and supply of weapons to militants active in the valley,” he said.

“Case FIR No. 105/2020 under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Lalpora. Further investigation is going on,” said a police spokesman in a statement.
