The Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday said it busted a militant hideout in Chatyari forest area of Rajouri district.

A police spokesman in a statement said, “In a major success on its Counter Insurgency (CI) front, Jammu and Kashmir Police in Rajouri district busted a big hideout of militants in Chatyari forest area of Rajouri and recovered arms and ammunition including four automatic assault rifles.”

“Based upon a specific information regarding presence of a terrorists hideout in Chatyari forest area of Rajouri, an operation was launched by police on late last evening hours and entire area was cordoned by teams of police headed by DySP PC Rajouri and DySP Headquarters along with police post incharge Chatyar Chingus under the supervision of Addl SP Rajouri,” he said.

“In the operation, which continued throughout the day, entire forest area was put to physical search during which a militant hideout was unearthed and busted by police recovering huge quantity of arms,” said the spokesman. “The recoveries from the hideout which include; 1 AK 56 automatic assault rifle, 3 AK47 automatic assault rifles, 11 pistols which include 2 modified pistols, 8 magazines of AK rifle, 21 pistol magazines,  02 modified pistol magazines,  606 AK rounds and 36 pistol rounds,” he said.

The spokesman quoted SSP Rajouri as having said that it appears that militants had stored the recovered arms and ammunition in the underground hideout with an aim to use the same to carry major militant strikes but their plot has been foiled by police by busting the hideout.

“Case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Rajouri and investigation taken up,” said the spokesman in a statement.
