SRINAGAR: A militant affiliated with proscribed outfit The Resistance Front was killed in an encounter at Gundjahangir village of Hajin area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, police said.

An official said that one militant was killed in the encounter. Search operations are underway in the area, said the official.
The slain militant has been identified as Imtiyaz Ahmad Dar, affiliated with proscribed outfit The Resistance Front, a front for the Lashkar-e-Taiba. Dar was involved in the recent civilian killing at Shahgund in Bandipora, said police.

Earlier, a police spokesman said a gunfight broke out between militants and forces in Gundjahangir area of Hajin.
