A militant of Jaish-e-Muhammad outfit killed in a brief shootout in Handwara Khrew area of Pampore in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Sunday has been identified as Waseem a resident of Pakistan.

A police spokesman in a statement said: “On a credible input about the presence of terrorists, a  swift search operation was launched jointly by Police and security forces at  Bathien area of Khrew in Awantipora.”

“As the searches were going on, the search party was fired upon by the militant. The fire was retaliated leading to a brief exchange of gunfire,” he said.

“Consequently one militant was killed in the exchange of fire,” he added.

The police spokesman in a statement said that incriminating materials including arms and ammunition AK 47 Rifle and magazines were recovered from the killed militant.

“From the incriminating material recovered, it is learnt that the killed militant is a Pakistani codename as Waseem. He was affiliated with proscribed militant outfit JeM,” he said.

Police has registered a case in this regard and area is being searched.
