A militant was killed in an ongoing encounter with government forces at Sharshali area of Khrew in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday.
An official said a Joint team of Army, Special Operations Group (SOG) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched a cordon-and-search-operation after “specific inputs” about the presence of militants in the area.
As such the joint team of forces approached towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, triggering off a brief exchange of fire, he said.
He said in the initial phase of a gunfight, one militant has been killed and operation is going on. His identity was not known immediately, said the official.
