A militant of Jaish-e-Muhammad outfit killed in an encounter with the government forces in Dar-Ganiegund village of Tral has been identified as Anwar a resident of Pakistan.

A police spokesman in a statement said that a cordon and search operation was launched today by Police and army in Dar-Ganiegund area of Tral in Awantipora based on credible inputs about the presence of militants in the area.

“As the search operation was going on, hiding militants fired on the search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter,” said Police spokesman in a statement.

“In the ensuing encounter, one militant was killed and his body was retrieved from the site of the encounter,” the spokesman said.

“Incriminating materials including arms and ammunition were recovered from the site of encounter. From the incriminating materials recovered, it is learnt that the slain militant is a “Pakistani codenamed as Anwar who was affiliated with proscribed militant outfit JeM. He was involved in attacks on security establishments and other civilian atrocities in the area,” said police spokesman.

“Moreover one policeman also sustained minor injuries and was evacuated to hospital for medical attention. He is stated to be stable. Police has registered a case and initiated investigation in the instant matter,” he said.

“Citizens are once again requested not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosives materials if any,” said police spokesman in a statement.
