Militants and government forces on Wednesday evening exchanged fire at Badrapayeen village of Kralgund in Handwara area in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.

Reports said that government forces, following specific information about the presence of militants launched a cordon-and-search operation in the village.

“While the searches were on, militants opened fire on the forces, they said, adding that the forces returned the fire immediately, leading to an exchange of fire that lasted for five minutes.”

Quoting army sources news agency GNS said additional reinforcement has rushed to the area and has installed lights to prevent militants escape taking advantage of darkness.
