The Jammu and Kashmir police have identified the militant who was killed during an encounter with government forces in Turigam village of Kulgam on Sunday.

The slain militants were identified as Raqib Ahmad Sheikh son of Mohammad Amin Sheikh resident of Shiganpora Kulgam and from the incriminating material recovered from the site of the encounter, the other two slain militants have been identified as Waleed and Numan, foreigners from Pakistan.

A police spokesperson in a statement said according to the police records, all the three slain militants have affiliated with proscribed militant outfit JeM. The two slain Pakistani militants, Waleed and Numan, as per police records were the top commanders of proscribed militant outfit JeM who were active in Southern parts of Kashmir valley.

“As per the police records, they were involved in conspiring and executing several militant attacks and were wanted by the law for their complicity in a series of crimes including an attack on security establishments and civilian atrocities. Several crime cases were registered against them for their militant activities,” said the spokesman.

“Arms & ammunition including rifles were recovered from the site of encounter. All these materials have been taken in the case records for further investigation and to probe their complicity in other terror cases,” he said.

“Citizens are once again requested not to venture inside the encounter zone since such an area can prove dangerous due to stray explosive materials. People are requested to cooperate with police till the area is completely sanitized and cleared of all the explosives materials if any,” said police spokesman in a statement.
