Militants on Sunday late evening hurled a UBGL grenade towards the army camp in Ahgam area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

An official said that the militants hurled a grenade at the army’s 44 RR Ahgam camp from the Arihal village side but it exploded away from the camp.

“As the army heard the bang, they fired several rounds in retaliation. There was, however, no loss of life or damage to the property in the incident,” he said.

He said that the area was cordoned off soon after the attack.

Meanwhile, army’s Srinagar based spokesman in a statement said, “Ineffective Stand Off fire towards Ahagom COB, 44 RR at 1845h. Same retaliated. No injuries to own troopers.”
