Police on Wednesday identified the militants who were killed in an encounter with government forces in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

An official identified the slain militants as Nasir Chadro a resident of Arwani, Auqib Ahmad Sheikh a resident of Redwani and Zahid Ahmad a resident of Takibal Bijbehara.

He said that Nasir and Auqib were affiliated with Lashkhar –e-Toiba militant outfit and Zahid was affiliated with Hizbul Mujaheddin militant outfit.

Police spokesman in a statement said that on a credible input, a cordon and search operation was launched in Pazalpora area of Bijbehara.

He said that during the search operation, the hiding militants fired on the search party. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter.

“In the ensuing encounter, three militants were killed and the bodies were retrieved from the encounter site. Incriminating material including arms and ammunition was recovered from the site,” he said.

Police has registered a case in this regard, said the spokesman.
