SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Thursday arrested an accused person within one hour involved in wrongful confinement and sexual assault of a minor girl in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
A police spokesman in a statement Police Station Devsar received a written complaint from one person stating therein that a minor girl was confined wrongfully and assaulted sexually by one person namely Abdul Rehman Laway son of Abdul Aziz Laway resident of Malwan, when she was alone at her home.
“Accordingly, a case FIR No. 03/2021 under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Devsar and investigation was initiated,” said the spokesman.
“During the course of the investigation, a special team headed by SHO Devsar under the supervision of DySP Kulgam Aashaq Hussain-JKPS acted swiftly on specific information and arrested the accused person within one hour after a complaint was filed. He has been shifted to PS Devsar where he remains in custody,” he said.
“After fulfilling all medico-legal formalities, the minor girl was handed over to her legal heirs. The investigation into the matter is in progress,” said a police spokesman in a statement.
