Scores of youth early Sunday participated in a cycling event on the banks of Dal Lake. Jammu and Kashmir State Sports Council organized the event that was managed by Impressions, an event management company. Tajamul Islam, World Kick boxing champion flagged off the race.

The theme of the event was “clean Kashmir-Green Kashmir.” The organizers said that the aim behind organizing this event was to make people think about making Kashmir clean and green.

The Cyclothon attracted professional cyclists and students from various schools and colleges. The event – Kashmir CyclothonPedal For Kashmir, had participants from all over the state.

A total of 400 enthusiastic and energetic professional and amateur cyclists from the state participated in the Championship, which was witnessed by a large number of spectators, including senior citizens, parents and civil dignitaries, who cheered and encouraged the participants throughout the route.

The cycling event started from Nigeen Club Srinagar and concluded at Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre. The event witnessed huge participation for supporting the cause and making a difference in the society.

On completion of the race, prize distribution ceremony was held where the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Khan, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Dr Farooq Lone and Divisional Sports Officer Kashmir Mushtaq Ahmad and Members of sports Council awarded mementos, cheques to the winners and certificates to the participants.

Cyclist Akbar Khan emerged as winner and received the 1st prize while as Waheed and Mansoor finished first and second runner ups.

In the girl’s category, Rubab Ali emerged as winner while as Shahida Jabeen and Insha Wadoo emerged first and second runner ups respectively.
