Police on Thursday detained Hurriyat Conference (m) chairperson Miriwaiz Umar Farooq after he tried to march towards the martyrs’ graveyard at Naqshbandh Sahib in Srinagar’s old city to pay homage to July 13, 1931 martyrs.
A spokesperson of the amalgam said that as soon as Mirwaiz stepped out of his Nigeen residence and started marching towards old city, he was detained by a posse of police deployed outside his home.
Mirwaiz has been lodged in Police Station Nigeen.
22 Muslims were massacred by fascist dogra rulers on this day in 1931 after the dogra forces at the directions of then Maharaja Hari Singh opened fire on demonstrators outside Central Jail in Srinagar.
