Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was Wednesday barred from addressing a press conference in connection with the Shopian killings and put under house arrest at his Nigeen residence. The amalgam has condemned the police action and reiterated that ongoing movement would be taken to its logical conclusion.

Reports said soon after authorities came to know that Mirwaiz has decided to address media over Shopian killings, he was put under house arrest at his Nigeen residence.

Police and CRPF sealed Aashai Bagh Bridge near Nigeen and all the media personnel heading towards his residence were stopped and not allowed to proceed towards Nigeen.

Mirwaiz told CNS that he was barred from addressing to media once again. He said the government has “once again resorted to anti-democratic and anti-people policies to silence the genuine voices of Kashmir.”
