Appealing people to observe complete strike on August 15, Hurriyat (m) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has asked Kashmiris to protest the “atrocities aimed to suppress the freedom struggle of Kashmir besides showing complete commitment and resolve towards the movement”.
He said that the Hurriyat was not against the of Independence celebrations and progress of any country, adding, however, “the peace and prosperity in the region could only be achieved if Kashmir issue is resolved according to the wishes and aspirations of Kashmir.”
Mirwaiz stated that India gave innumerable sacrifices for its freedom and thus it could have been perceived the country would respect the freedom of others as well. However, he said “the reality was that the claimants of so called biggest democracy has suppressed the political, religious and economic rights of Kashmir by use of military might and used all inhuman tactics to break the resolve of Kashmiri people and its leadership.”
Hurriyat (m) Chairman said, “instead of turning its eyes away from the historical and political realities of Kashmir, Indian leadership should accept the reality that it can’t suppress the aspirations and emotions of Kashmiris for too long by use of force and coercion.”
He said Kashmir was a international dispute and its political future will be decided by its own people.
Meanwhile, Hurriyat spokesperson condemned the impediments created by the forces across the state in the wake of August 15. He stated that people were being frisked and checkpoints were installed to create inconvenience to people under the garb of security. (KNS)
