Srinagar

Hurriyat Conference (m) chairperson Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday condemned the killing of a police officer in Nowhatta by a ‘mob’.

Mirwaiz took to twitter: “Deeply disturbed & condemn the brutal act at Nowhatta.Mob violence & public lynching is outside the parameters of our values & religion….

….We cannot allow state brutality to snatch our humanity & values”

Pertinently, a police officer was beaten to death at Jamia Masjid during Shab-e-Qadar. People said that he was picturing the local youth who were raising pro-freedom slogans around the mosque.

The officer, when confronted, opened indiscriminate fire injuring three Namazees.

Police initially denied presence of any of their men around the mosque and ruled out that one of their men was beaten to death.

However, later police issued a statement condemning the incident and identifying the victim as Altaf Ahmad, a DySP rank police officer working with the Jammu and Kashmir police.
