Stating that ‘communal thinking’ was attached to the institution of Village Defence Committee, chairman of his faction of Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Sunday demanded disbanding of VDC forthwith.

Terming the Kishtwar gang rape incident as “shameful” and “aggression against the chastity of Kashmiri woman,” Mirwaiz said it was not the first time VDC members were found involved in criminal acts.

Earlier also, he said, many VDC members have been found to have committed accesses against the common masses.

In reality, Mirwaiz said a communal thinking is attached to the very foundation of VDC as an Institution. “Hence it has become very important that VDC should be disbanded to protect people from their oppression,” Mirwaiz said in a statement to KNS.

He said “brutality and aggression” of VDCs against common people is not less than ‘infamous SOG.’

“So we demand these committees should be immediately disbanded,” Mirwaiz said, adding, “The accused should also be sternly punished”.

While delivering a sermon at Masjid Rehmat lal Bazaar, Mirwaiz said the sad incident of Batakoot and killings of two childrens at Bemina reflects that how the human values are being violated in Kashmir.

He said it was a cause of concern that molestation and suicide cases have infested the Kashmir.

“The immorality and materialism have ruined the society,” he said.

Mirwaiz also called upon the people to devote their major time in offering salat (prayers) and reciting the holy Quran and beseech Allah for forgiveness and pity during the ongoing sacred month of Ramadan. He said that rewards of fasting are many, but in this month they are multiplied.

He said that people should show magnanimity in this holy month and help the poor and needful besides contributing in charitable activities.
