Mirwaiz Hails Jammu Kashmir MPs’ United Stand in Parliament

SRINAGAR: Delivering his sermon at the Jamia Masjid in Srinagar on Friday, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq welcomed the united stand taken by Jammu and Kashmir’s three Members of Parliament, Mian Altaf Ahmad, Engineer Rashid, and Agha Ruhullah Mehdi, during the recent debate in Parliament on the Operation Sindoor.

Mirwaiz said that the MPs’ intervention in Parliament reflected the pain, disempowerment, and dispossession of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “It is good to see that on these matters, all three MPs from Jammu and Kashmir were on the same page, speaking with passion and sincerity about the sentiments of the people,” he said.

Referring to the recent parliamentary debate following the Pahalgam attack, Mirwaiz remarked that while many leaders debated the purpose and outcomes of war, only a few—mostly from the opposition—acknowledged the human cost and its direct impact on Jammu and Kashmir. This, he noted, reveals the prevailing mindset and political mood of the time.

“I can only hope that those in power in New Delhi listened to what was said,” the Mirwaiz stated. “If they are truly serious about bridging the ‘Dil ki Doori’ (emotional disconnect), they must take such voices seriously.”

Mirwaiz emphasised that war, violence, and the use of force are not solutions to the region’s longstanding issues. “Engagement at all levels is not only a more evolved approach but also a far cheaper one,” he said. “Peace and prosperity for billions in the Indian subcontinent, especially the poor, can only come through dialogue, not conflict.”
