The chairman, of his faction of Hurriyat Conference Mirwaiz Umar Farooq ,who was put under house arrest since February 9 in his Delhi residence is flying back to Kashmir tomorrow as the security was lifted on Tuesday evening.
“Yes, Mirwaiz Sahab is returning on Thursday, and he will straightway drive to Hurriyat head office in Rajbahh to preside over a joint meeting of executive and general council,” Shahid-ul-Islam, a close aide of Mirwaiz confirmed to Kashmir Life.
Mirwaiz is of the opinion that the execution of the Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru has squeezed his faction of Hurriyat Conference’s space to engage New Delhi into a dialogue to resolve the festering Kashmir issue.
“We have been trying our best to tell people that their political aspirations would be addressed. But the hanging of Guru has tanked any chance to enter into a dialogue with New Delhi. Guru’s hanging has silenced chances of dialogue too,” opined Mirwaiz Umar.
The moderate faction of Hurriyat has been pitching for a triangular dialogue between Kashmir-Pakistan, India-Pakistan and New Delhi-Srinagar in its bid to be part of the parlance to resolve the issue.
A Hurriyat delegation held a round of talks with Pakistani leadership in December last year and extended support to dialogue process aimed at resolving the problem.
“We have been trying to popularise dialogue institution for over a decade now but Guru’s hanging has sealed any such prospect. There is no hope left,” he said.
The Mirwaiz described the hanging of Guru as “waging war against people of Jammu and Kashmir”.
