Ahead of the Awami Action Committee (AAC) call for peaceful procession and shutdown call tomorrow by JRL, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house arrest on Monday evening.

The spokesman of AAC earlier in a statement said that after Zohr prayers at Jamia Masjid tomorrow a peaceful procession will be taken out from Jamia Masjid to martyrs graveyard in Eidgah Srinagar and Mirwaiz will lead the procession.

A complete shutdown will be observed tomorrow in memory of “shaheed Millat shaheed Hurriyat martyrs of Hawal” and all the tens of thousands of Kashmiris “martyrs” since 1990, the spokesman said.

Meanwhile, authorities have decided not to allow a procession led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in Old City of Srinagar district tomorrow.

The authorities have ordered imposition of restrictions in parts of the old city in view of a shutdown call was given by Joint Resistance Leaders (JRL) on Tuesday (May 21) to commemorate the death anniversaries of Mirwaiz Muhammad Farooq, martyrs of 1990 Hawal massacre and Abdul Gani Gani. The curbs will be imposed in various parts of the old city.
