Police on Saturday arrested many supporters of Hurriyat (M) chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in Khanyar area and foiled the attempt of holding a function in the memory of farmer Mirawiz Late Mohammad Farooq. A Hurriat (M) Chairman, spokesman told Kashmir Life. Police however, refuted the charges saying no arrests were made there.
“We did not arrest anybody from Khanyar,” SP north Tahir Saleem said.
A Hurriyat spokesman said that police also put Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest and did not allow him to move out to preside over the function in Khanyar.
Pertinently, Awami Action Committee (AAC) has announced a calendar of functions in memory of its founder Late Mirwaiz Mohammad Farooq. AAC is holding a massive rally on May 21, in Eidgah Srinagar.
