SRINAGAR

Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Friday has demanded the opening of ancient routes connecting Jammu and Kashmir with Pakistan Administered Kashmir(PaK)

Stressing upon India and Pakistan to open the natural routes connecting the divided Kashmir, Mirwaiz said apart from Srinagar-Muzaffarabad road, a number of routes like Sialkot-Poonch route including other entry points exist between two Kashmiris and they should be made motorable to give economic boost to the Kashmiris living across the man-made divided line.

He called upon India and Pakistan to open the routes for the broader economic welfare of people living across the divided line.

Mirwaiz said people have to face immense problems in winters since Jammu-Srinagar highway often remains closed due to heavy snowfall. Hence, he said other routes going through PaK can act as alternative life lines for the people of Kashmir.

Referring to the recent snowfall, Mirwaiz said the state administration has miserably failed to deliver despite tall claims that it has done enough to meet an eventuality arising due to the snow. He said few inches of snow have left entire Kashmir in dark, roads are blocked, and entire administration is in chaos.

Mirwaiz also said that responsibility falls upon people that they should desist from black marketing, profiteering, and illegal storage of essential of commodities in a bid to sell them on higher prices.

Terming January 5 as significance in the history of Kashmir, Mirwaiz said on this day in 1949, UN adopted first resolution on Kashmir granting it right to self determination. He called upon the international community to fulfill its pledges made with the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
