Authorities put Mirwaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest and informed him that he can neither go to Jamia  Masjid for Friday prayers nor he can attend the party meeting scheduled at Mirwaiz Manzil Rajouri Kadel, after prayers.

“Mirawiz Sahab has been put under house arrest from early Friday,” media advisor to Hurriyat (M), Shahid-ul-Islam informed Kashmir Life.

Shahid added that Awami Action Committee (AAC) had convened a meeting about the arrangements of the martyr’s day ahead and Mirwaiz had to preside over it but now he is not in a position to neither attend the Friday prayers nor preside over the meeting.

Hurriyat (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani has called for protests after the Friday prayers against the civilian killings in Sumbal.

Pertinently, top separatist leaders are under house arrest from the day when two civilians were killed in Sumbal allegedly by army. These leaders include Shabir Ahmad Shah, Mohammad Yasin Malik and Nayeem Ahmad Khan. Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was also restricted to his house many times since then however, Hurriyat (G) chairman, Syed Ali Geelani is continuously under house arrest from March 7, this year.
