In a statement, the Mirwaiz said he had been prevented from attending the gathering, which he described as a gesture of Shia-Sunni unity and shared reverence for Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and the martyrs of Karbala.

He said Kashmir has long stood as a symbol of mutual respect, brotherhood and religious harmony, adding that love for the Ahl-e-Bayt (RA) and reverence for the Companions of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) are an integral part of the region’s shared spiritual heritage.

The Mirwaiz said that at a time when society is facing multiple challenges, unity, restraint, mutual respect and standing together were more important than ever.

He urged people not to allow divisive forces to weaken the centuries-old traditions of communal harmony and peaceful coexistence in Kashmir.

Appealing to people across all sections of society, the Mirwaiz called upon them to uphold dignity, patience and mutual respect, and honour the enduring message of Karbala by remaining steadfast in truth, compassion, justice and unity.
