SRINAGAR: Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Dr Moulvi Mohammad Umar Farooq has expressed anguish over the killing of Saikun Khan outside a police station in Rajasthan and called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death.
In a post on X, Mirwaiz said Khan’s family had alleged that he was targeted because his beard and skullcap identified him as a Muslim.
He said the allegations should be thoroughly investigated and those responsible brought to justice.
Mirwaiz also criticised what he described as inflammatory and communal remarks by BJP leaders and ministers in different states, saying such rhetoric from people in positions of power was normalising prejudice and emboldening hatred.
“Hate speech has become routine political discourse,” he said, adding that repeatedly legitimising hatred from public platforms could have consequences on the streets.
He called for an end to what he termed the “dangerous normalisation” of hate speech and communal rhetoric.
