Expressing his shock and regret over the death of a girl in Lashipora Khag due to an explosion and injury to 2 other children, Hurriyat Conference (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq stated that the area lies close to the firing range of Indian army in Tosa Maidan, adding, there was all possibility that the little girl became the victim of an unexploded shell as has been happening in the past particularly in an around Tosa Maidan.
According to a statement, Mirwaiz stated that it has been a long sought after demand of Hurriyat that all the areas bordering Tosa Maidan should not be only demilitarized and purged of explosive shells, but Army should be told to vacate that area. He further said that the people of the area have protested time and again over the losses of lives due to unexploded shells, but the government has remained unmoved over the issue.
Mirwaiz also condemned the killing of Abid Akbar Wani of Krankshivan Sopore by the unidentified gunmen. He demanded an impartial probe and stated that killers of innocent people can never be forgiven. He expressed his sympathies and condolences with the bereaved family
He reiterated the Eidgah Chalo programme on 21st May Strike and appealed the people to make it a success.
