SRINAGAR: Thousands of devotees attended the second Juma of Ramzan at Jama Masjid, Srinagar where Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Molvi Muhammad Umar Farooq addressed the congregation, raising concerns over the ongoing Middle East crisis and regional instability.

The Mirwaiz highlighted the worsening situation in occupied Palestine, citing persecution by Israel and the lack of international accountability. He stated that continued dispossession of Palestinians and illegal land grabs in the West Bank reflect a breakdown of international law and global moral responsibility. He warned that without justice for Palestinians and an end to occupation, the region would remain in conflict and instability.
He also expressed concern over the US military build-up in the region, warning that preparations for a potential attack on Iran could destabilise the Middle East and have global implications. Referring to Kashmir’s ties with Iran, he prayed for the safety of Iranian citizens and Kashmiri students studying there.
Addressing regional tensions, the Mirwaiz noted ongoing clashes between Pakistan and Afghanistan during Ramzan, urging both nations to resolve their differences through dialogue and good neighbourly principles. He emphasised that wars only lead to grief and loss of life, advocating diplomacy and restraint.
