SRINAGAR: Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir Molvi Mohammad Umar Farooq on Saturday called for a revival of moral, spiritual and social values, saying the message of Youm-e-Ashoora and the sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) remains a timeless guide for building a just and compassionate society.
Addressing a large gathering at Astan-e-Aaliya Alam Sahib in Narwara on the occasion of Youm-e-Ashoora, Mirwaiz said the day occupies a significant place in Islamic history and serves as an occasion for reflection, gratitude, repentance and renewal of faith.
He said Youm-e-Ashoora is forever associated with the supreme sacrifice of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the beloved grandson of Prophet Muhammad (SAW), and the martyrs of Karbala.
“Karbala is not merely a tragic event of history, but an eternal lesson in truth, justice, patience, sacrifice and steadfastness before oppression,” he said.
Highlighting the relevance of Ashoora’s message in contemporary society, Mirwaiz expressed concern over increasing materialism and the erosion of moral and spiritual values.
He said a society should not be judged by wealth, comfort or outward success alone, but by its commitment to truth, honesty, compassion, humility, family values, care for the poor and fear of Allah.
Mirwaiz urged people, particularly the younger generation, to reconnect with the values of faith, character, service, simplicity and responsibility, saying these principles alone could help build a humane and principled society.
The gathering, attended by a large number of devotees, including women, concluded with collective prayers for peace, unity, forgiveness, the well-being of the Muslim Ummah and relief for people facing suffering and hardship.
