SRINAGAR: The Special Investigation Team constituted under the directions of SSP Srinagar Shri Imtiyaz Ismail to trace out the missing constable namely Sameer Kumar, has found some vital leads which will help in solving the case, a police spokesman said.

In order to probe further into the matter, a formal case has been registered in Police Station Sherghari and investigation of the case is going on. Efforts are on to trace the culprits and to affect the arrest.

Sameer Ji Kumar had gone missing from his duties since June 14. The aged parents are in a state of shock in Jamu seeking whereabouts.

During the initial probe, it was found that Kumar had absented from duties and gone to Kupwara along with a colleague and his uncle, Head Constable Dileep Kumar, the spokesman said.

“After dropping his uncle at district police lines in Kupwara, the constable reached Yonsoo bridge at Chogal, Handwara, and jumped into the Puhroo river reportedly under the influence of liquor,” the official said. Though the efforts are under way to fish out his body there has not been any success.
