The family members of police constable Sameer Ji Kumar who went missing from Kupwara on May 14 are demanding the whereabouts of their “disappeared” son.

Sameer went missing when he visited his uncle’s home at Kupwara. He was accompanied by an SPO Aijaz Ahmad, family sources said.

The family members of Sameer who have travelled from Jammu to Srinagar to trace their missing son are presently putting up in a rented hotel room at Lal Chowk in city centre.

“The accompanying SPO Aijaz Ahamd is giving contradictory statements. He gives us different versions. Sometimes he says he left for Jammu and sometimes says he jumped in the river in a drunken state,” said Roopkrishan, Sameer’s father.

Roopkrishan is now demanding a watertight enquiry into the matter and wants to know the whereabouts of his son. “I have lodged a missing report at Shergari police station. I want government to intervene into the matter and help us in tracing our son.”

“I know my son well. He is not a addicted to liquor and is very attached to his family especially to me, he cannot commit suicide,” said Sameer’s mother.

Pertinently, SSP Srinagar Imtiyaz Ismail Parry has already constituted a Special Investigation Team headed by SDPO, Shaheed Gunj, Amrit Pal in order to expedite the tracing of missing constable.
