Shutting the doors for all those who have FIR’s against them, MLA Langate, Er Rashid on Wednesday, formally launched his own political party. “Jammu Kashmir Awami Ettihaad will not give membership to anyone who has any FIR against him,” said Rashid, who at least has ten cases against himself in different police stations.

Later on, Engineer Rasheed clarified to Kashmir Life that he was talking about “the criminal FIRs only and not the ones which are related to pro-separatism activities”. He added, “Pro-movement people are welcome my party.”

While elaborating the manifesto of his newly launched party, ‘Awami Ettihaad’, Rasheed in a press conference said that he wants to break the tradition of generational rule in Kashmir. “I want to draft a resolution that no one should be allowed to preside as Chief Minister of state more than twice,” Rashid said.

Jammu Kashmir Awami Ettihaad will work for “progress, prestige and protection” of people of Kashmir, reads the banner of banner of Awami Ettihaad.

Repeatedly blaming National Conference and PDP, for their ‘failure in governance’ Rasheed claimed that the resolution to save Afzal Guru and then to bring his body back failed due to ‘callous approach’ of these parties. “I am not the puppet of New Delhi while as all other political parties are. They do everything to please New Delhi and that became the reason we couldn’t save Afzal Guru,” he said.

He further added, “Present mainstream parties should represent Kashmir in New Delhi but unfortunately they are representing New Delhi in Kashmir.”

After launching Awami Ettihaad, Engineer Rasheed said, “I want to create Engineer Rasheed in every house of Kashmir. I was not able to bring changes individually but now I hope that with other likeminded people I will make system to follow rules.”

President of Awami Ettihaad, Er Rashid introduced his party members. He said, “ Advocate Nazir Malik from Bandipora will be the General Secretary and Moulvi Showkat Nadvi from Ganderbal will hold the position of Spokesperson in the party.”

Engineer is the third MLA since 2002 to launch his own mainstream political party. Earlier Minster for Agriculture, Ghulam Hassan Mir, and former Minster, Hakeem Mohammad Yasin launched their own parties in recent years.
