SRINAGAR: The Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU), an amalgam of religious bodies in Jammu and Kashmir, has urged a quick-commerce company to immediately remove alleged pork products listed for sale on its platform in Kashmir.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the MMU, headed by Kashmir’s chief preacher Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, said screenshots shared by members of the public appeared to show pork products being offered through the online delivery platform in the Valley.
The religious body called for an investigation into how the products were listed for sale and urged the authorities to identify and warn those responsible.
The MMU said the sale and consumption of pork is prohibited in Islam and that the issue is particularly sensitive for Muslims in the region.
It also called on the company to ensure that such products are not stocked, advertised or sold in Kashmir.
The MMU said businesses operating in the region should take account of its religious and cultural sensitivities and conduct their operations responsibly.
