Srinagar:  A man from Rafiabad area of Baramulla district was killed on last evening by a “violent mob” in Uri area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, police said on Saturday.

Bashir Ahmad Khan, 35, son of Sher Ali Khan of Lari Aangan, Rafiabad was accompanying a Police party from Panzullah, Rafiabad to help Police identify a kidnapped woman, mother of two, police said.

A police statement said that Khan was taken hostage by a mob and was attacked with lathis and thrown into a Nallah, resulting into his death in Paranpeela village.

“On Friday, a police party from Police Station Panzala accompanied by Police party from police Station Uri and went to village ParanPeela, Uri to recover the kidnapped woman. While the woman was being recovered from one of the houses a violent mob from the side of accused restored to intense violence and pelted stones upon police party and accompanying civilians from Rafiabad,” Police said.

According to Police on 15 March one Mushtaq Ahmad Khan of Kutroo, Nadihal Rafiabad lodged a written complaint in Police Station Panzla, Rafiabad that his wife ( name withheld -a mother of two children )was kidnapped by one Ashiq Khan son of Mohd Sadiq Khan of Paranpela, Uri.
